EDITORIAL WORK

I've led art direction and styling for fashion features, editorials, and cover shoots with some of the world’s leading cool people. Among them were Zoe Saldana, Imogen Poots, Kerry Washington, Parris Goebel, Petra Collins, and a lot more. Here are some of my favorites.

SELECT EDITORIALS FROM FLARE MAGAZINE

Sure, these go back to 2014 but the editorials below are still so emotionally resonant for me. I shot these with my friend and frequent collaborator, Norman Wong, all around my beloved city of Toronto. We didn’t have permits — we just had a beautiful wardrobe (Gucci, The Row, Lanvin, Carven), a trailer, and a dream. Often, we would do hair and makeup at my home near Trinity Bellwoods, or a magical house owned by Norman’s musician friends who would later play us songs on their piano. I still can’t believe a magazine paid us to do this.

Moving Pieces was photographed all around the city before I moved away, and we shot at places that held a lot of meaning for Norms and I: Kensington Market, the Ai Wei Wei statue, my local coffee shop, and the forever lost landmark Honest Ed’s. These images and the feeling behind them are to this day some of my favorite works.

I met Petra in Toronto when she was a student at OCAD. Our first collaboration — for The Globe and Mail at the time — had to be scheduled around her classes. I wish I kept her mood boards from that project, they were art.

We shot this editorial in and around all the old motels near Niagara Falls (the nicer Canadian side, sorry American pals) all on film. We would stop whenever we felt inspiration. We also didn’t have permits — do you sense a pattern here? — but I can assure you I am much more compliant today.

This feature won a National Magazine Award in 2014.

I double-dutied as stylist and creative director for this Flare cover story with my dream girl, Imogen Poots. This shoot happened on the coldest day in probably New York history, but we made it all look like a candy-colored summertime surf shack.

I still covet the Miu Miu coat she’s wearing from that incredible collection. Call me if you find it on the Real Real.
